Pursuing Information Systems as my second degree brings a fresh perspective to everything. It’s not just about getting through the term or taking exams; it’s about rediscovering my passion for technology and innovation. This time, college isn’t just a phase—it’s a choice and a deliberate step toward the future I want to create. Here’s a glimpse of how I helm both my academic life and professional responsibilities.
My alarm goes off at 6 am to get ready to go to school after work. After I shower, I ensure I pack all the essentials: laptop, charger, and other essentials.
I drive to school at exactly 7 a.m. The traffic can be unpredictable, but I make sure to stay composed by listening to music on the road. My commute to school takes 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the traffic conditions. The journey is made easier by the warm welcome and smiles I receive from the school security guards when I arrive at the parking area. They even offer to assist me when I need parking guidance. I can honestly say that this is one of the reasons why Benilde is so extraordinary. It’s not just the facilities that make the school stand out, but the people who make you feel truly valued and welcomed every day. Their warmth and friendliness create a sense of community that makes all the difference.
Most days begin at 8 am, starting with a lecture. My classes this term are a balance of theory and hands-on learning. I feel very grateful for the professors I have for this term because their passion for teaching is palpable and more than that, there is so much value in what they teach and from the work ethics that they show.
After classes, I take a break to eat lunch with my best friend. We usually reserve a meeting room to focus on completing deliverables for my other courses. The break is such a refreshing time to catch up on life outside academics. I am lucky to be spending it with people with the same responsibilities as I have. It helps me stay balanced.
At 5:50 pm, I get ready to go to the parking and head home. The commute home is never easy as it is right in the middle of rush hour. It’s always a test of patience, and by the time I get home, the commute feels like it has drained all of my energy. Nevertheless, I always remind myself that there is sacrifice and hardship when we want to achieve something for ourselves. It is a part of my day that I learned to accept.
Balancing work and studies is never easy but finding the commitment to finishing this degree is a power that outweighs all the challenges. As of writing this, I am reminded that college life for the second time, with all my other responsibilities at work, can be demanding but they are all necessary for a brighter tomorrow.
